TV Dinner: 30 Rock

The Show: 30 Rock

The Challenge: Cook something inspired by the show on or before Sunday, November 15th (this gives you two full weekends to think it over). It can be based on a specific moment, or on a broad concept or character. If you have a food blog, post your results. If not, I'd still love to see your creation, so feel free to email pics and stories to dontbeawuss@gmail.com.

If you're not a 30 Rock fan, don't fret- there will be more TV Dinners to come! Let me know if you have any ideas for future challenges.

Beat the eggs. Whip the cream. Show no mercy.

I love this post challenge! I've started doing these "recipes inspired by films/books" thing on my blog and this fits so perfectly... also I'm a huge 30 Rock fan (could be because I'm told I remind people of Tina Fey on a daily basis). I will be submitting a recipe called "Workin on My Night Cheese". Off to the food lab!!!

This is one of those shows I know I should have been watching and now it feels too late and I'm going to have to rent all the dvds or something. poo. Maybe you'll do the Office? I suppose Project Runway doesn't really lend itself to this ... though I see many possibilities if you do a Survivor challenge!

@Mae... Glad you're excited :)

@Wandering Coyote... Thanks! I enjoyed my visit.

@Tasty Trix... Actually, I think Project Runway is a great idea. Styling outfits is my second-biggest obsession after cooking, and I think the two are related. In both cases, it's the badass-est when people push the limits of convention without crossing over into the unpalatable.

Totally agree re. Survivor! And I suppose I could throw a bone to the rest of the known Universe and do the Office... sigh. (Yes, I know... I'm a strange, strange person.)

hmmm, i'm thinking a theme dinner party wherein everyone has to wear a trucker hat with a lame slogan on it... and the food, vending machine fare perhaps? I vote how i met your mother next time :)

haha -- I love it! Yes, we are fans of 30 Rock and all I can think of right now is making a pizza with stringy cheese like the one Liz Lemon was eating during her 1-900-OKFACE commercial. I will have a discussion with Mr. Wasabi and see if he has an edible scheme for this challenge...

I just realized I should probably have posted my recipe here instead of on the okra post - so here it is again!

Here's my 30 Rock recipe, inspired by the scene
here.

Since Tina Fey is half Greek, like me, I figured a shout out would be appropriate for this appetizer dish - adapted from a cookbook passed down from my YiaYia.

Recipe: Night Cheese

1 pound of kasseri cheese
1 pound of fresh mozzerella
1 pound of feta
1 lemon
Olive oil
Flour for dredging
Assorted olives (including kalamata)

Directions: Cut all the cheese into 1/4 inch thick pieces and dredge in flour.

Heat the oil in a medium skillet and add cheese pieces.

Brown on each side, 1.5 min for kasseri, 1 min for softer cheeses.

Remove to dish and serve with olives, a few squeezes of lemon juice, and drizzle olive oil.

OPA!

(I don't have pics of the dish, but I do of the old 60s cookbook - just let me know if you want it!)
